Many of the above nicks are well known and some that are less so reflect the mating strategies at various farms and the opportunities of certain sires to cover daughters of other sires in similar ownership or based at the same farm.
The most successful nick in terms of producing stakes-winners is that of Lonhro over Redoute's Choice mares which led to four stakes-winners Wawail, Souchez, Messene and Cohesion.
The overall stats for this mating are very favourable with 40 named foals to date producing 21 winners from 25 runners meaning 84% winners to runners.
With two previous Group winners Generalife and Eight Til Late bringing the tally to six overall, the nick runs at 24% stakes-winners to runners.
What is surprising is that the nick tried the other way around with Redoute's Choice covering Lonhro mares has produced one named foal!
Lonhro mares covered by sons of Redoute's Choice is a mating that has also been sparsely done in the past producing eight named foals, six to race for three winners.
Whatever breeders are doing with their Lonhro mares, they certainly haven't been sending them in numbers to Redoute's Choice or his sire sons.
Food for thought maybe?
