A
change of scene seems to have worked wonders for this well-bred Emirates Park
owned mare, who bolted in at Warrnambool at her first run for new trainer
Darren Weir.
With a second and four unplaced runs from five previous outings for Team
Hawkes, lightly raced four year-old Pins mare Speranta turned that average form
around to produce a sparkling win.
Sent out a hot favourite, she relished the heavy conditions to thrash a big field
of 16 in the 1400 metre maiden to win by more than four lengths.
A $410,000 Inglis Easter purchase from the Little Avondale Stud draft for Emirates
Park, Speranta was the most expensive yearling by champion New Zealand sire Pins
sold in that year.
She is the first winner for Kumari, a winning half-sister by Zabeel to Group I
winner Sharvasti and Group III winners Shastri and Bhandara.
