The completion of the 2015/2016 racing season has seen Haunui Farm's Iffraaj (GB) (Zafonic) crowned New Zealand's Champion 2YO Sire and Showcasing (GB) (Oasis Dream) crowned New Zealand's Champion Second Season Sire.
Iffraaj is now the elder statesman in the Haunui Farm stallion barn but his status amongst New Zealand's proven stallions continues to rise and last year's racing season is proof of that. His seven seasonal stakes winners proved his versatility once again with a Karaka Million winner as well as the Classic performers that we have become accustomed to whilst multiple Group One winner Turn Me Loose proved himself among the best middle distance horses in Australia.Iffraaj's quality group of two-year-olds was headlined by Karaka Million winner Xiong Feng however the efforts of Group One Diamond Stakes runner-up Wyndspelle, stakes winner The Soultaker and the unbeaten Mihaul, ensured Iffraaj was the dominant sire in New Zealand's two-year-old ranks last season and this crop's Classic year is eagerly anticipated.
Haunui Farm's Managing Director, Mark Chitty says "Iffraaj has done the job season after season – he's been at the head of the sires tables since his first crop turned three. He has left a Group One performer in each of his five crops to have raced in the Southern Hemisphere to date and his affinity with Northern Dancer, in particular Danehill-lined mares, should see all broodmare owners giving him some serious consideration in 2016 with what we believe are potentially his best seasons ahead of him."
Not to be upstaged, Showcasing, the Champion 2YO and First Season Sire of last season, once again headed his more fancied rivals in the race to be crowned New Zealand's Champion Second Season Sire whilst he also finished second to his barn mate Iffraaj on the 2YO Sires Table, leading the way by number of two-year-old winners with his second crop certainly backing up his first season achievements.
A dual hemisphere stallion but importantly 50% owned in New Zealand, Showcasing's international appeal was enhanced even further in June with the success of three-year-old filly Quiet Reflection in the Group One Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot.
His Southern Hemisphere success has seen him sire
Karaka Million runners to Derby performers and whilst Showcasing heads the
Second Season Sires table by earnings, he also leads the way by number of
winners, number of stakes performers and importantly, winners to runners and
stakes performers to runners – 62% for his first crop with an impressive 13.75%
stakes performers to runners across both his crops so far. And, if
breeders need any further convincing of Showcasing's ability to upgrade his
mares, it pays to give consideration to the fact that not one of his 13 stakes
winners worldwide so far, is out of a stakes performed mare or a mare that has
left another stakes performed horse.
Iffraaj and Showcasing will serve limited books of 100 and 125 mares respectively this season at fees of $17,500 + GST and $15,000 + GST.
Haunui Farm's Managing Director, Mark Chitty says, "Iffraaj and Showcasing are two serious stallions and their progeny are doing the job where it counts, on the racetrack. And importantly, they have the numbers on the ground to continue their success going forward. I would urge breeders to take a close look at their credentials and to give Shannon or myself a call quite quickly if either stallion is of interest given their books are almost full for the season."
