Aussie
breds tasted success at Greville in South Africa on Sunday with blue-blooded High
Chaparral (IRE) stayer Enaad capturing the Group II Elan Gold Cup over the
Melbourne Cup trip of 3200m, while Street Cry (IRE) three year-old Macduff won
the Listed Darley Arabian.
A homebred for Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Maktoum prepared by Mike de Kock,
Enaad claimed his fourth win from 18 starts with a length and a quarter victory
in the marathon event, his second success at stakes level.
Foaled and raised at Coolmore, Enaad is a half-brother to dual Group I winner
Pride of Dubai and stakes-winner Al Aneed being the third stakes-winner from
three foals to race from stakes-placed Danehill (USA) mare Al Anood.
A half-sister to Group I winner Rafha, the dam of champion sire and Group I
winner Invincible Spirit, Al Anood was bred by Coolmore and was among the last
small crop of Danehill foals conceived in the Northern Hemisphere and foaled in
Australia in 2003.
She was purchased for $500,000 by Tim Stakemire on behalf of Sheikh Mohammed
Bin Khalifa Al Maktoum at the 2005 Magic Millions Yearling Sale and has proven
an outstanding investment.
Al Anood has an unnamed two year-old colt by High Chaparral, a yearling filly
by Medaglia D'Oro (USA) and was exported to Great Britain earlier this year.
The Joey Ramsden trained Macduff scored
his second win from seven starts when posting a neck win in the 1600 metre
Darley Arabian.
Bred by the Esplin family and consigned on their behalf to the 2014 Inglis Australian
Easter Yearling Sale by Newhaven Park, Macduff fetched $140,000 to the bid of Joey Ramsden/Tawny Bloodstock and is the first Black Type winner
among seven winners from imported US Group II winner Dancing (GB).
Dancing has a yearling colt by Von Costa de Hero and is booked to visit the Esplin family owned stallion Office Bearer at Murrulla Stud this spring.
Macduff is the 105th stakes-winner worldwide for Darley's ill-fated stallion
Street Cry, who has a number of studs at stud including his brilliant Group I
MRC Blue Diamond winning son Pride of Dubai, who kicks off at Coolmore this
spring.
Already a stakes-winner in South Africa this
season, two year-old Zoffany (IRE) colt Zodiac Ruler missed by half a length in
the Group I Premier's Champion Stakes over 1600 metres.
Zodiac Ruler was a $17,000 Magic Millions National Weanling Sale purchase for
Paul Lafferty from the draft of Glenelg Park and is a half-brother to this
season's brilliant Group III winning filly Almighty Girl.
He is the seventh winner for Last Tycoon (IRE) mare Sybarite, a sibling to
South African champion filly and five time Group I winner Laisserfaire as well
as stakes-winners A Time for Julia, Time Thief, Foreplay and Personify.
