Our Vergara, who raced without the prefix across the Tasman, has joined the
powerful Cambridge stable of Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman to prepare for the
Hawke's Bay Triple Crown series and a date with boom young sire Tavistock.She won eight races from Anthony Cummings' Randwick yard, including the Gr.3 Epona Stakes and the Listed Mona Lisa Stakes as well as running fourth behind the champion mare Winx in the Gr.1 Doncaster Mile.
Our Vergara was subsequently purchased by Blue Gum Farm and T. J. S. Bloodstock for $A460,000 at a Sydney sale and she ran third in the Listed Civic Stakes earlier this month in her only appearance for Gerald Ryan
.
"She was on her way to New Zealand on the Monday after that," Blue Gum's Philip Campbell said.
"We bought her as a mare in training and prospective broodmare and our partner had a booking to Tavistock so we took that mare out and replaced her with Vergara.
"T. J. S. Bloodstock is a family trust managed by Simon Raleigh and he has been a wonderful client and a friend of ours.
"We also thought this would also be a very, very good opportunity to try and get some more Group One form next to the mare's name."
The opening two legs of the Hastings series – the Gr.1 Makfi Challenge Stakes and the Gr.1 Windsor Park Plate – are definitely on Our Vergara's programme and she could be a contender for the final race, the Gr.1 Livamol Classic.
"I wouldn't rule the third one out at all," Campbell said. "She's a Group Three winner over 1900 metres and in her last start she was doing her best work at the end after getting held up and she went through the line very well."
Our Vergara, who could have a possible lead-up run in the Gr.2 Lisa Chittick Foxbridge Plate, is a daughter of Snippetson and the Flying Spur mare Gracie's Spirit, who is a half-sister to Blue Gum stallion Turffontein. – NZ Racing Desk.
