Relocation for Sharkbite

Media Release - Friday July 1

It has been a timely run of form for the progeny of consistent stallion Sharkbite with the regally bred son of Redoute's Choice recently relocated to stand at Nioka Wozny's Moorookyle Park at Smeaton.

A stallion who has plenty of fans amongst owner/breeders, the handsome Sharkbite was recently represented by a winning treble last, an achievement made all the more impressive by the fact that he only had three runners that day.

SharkbiteBreaking his maiden at Port Augusta was the lightly raced Owl On The Prowl who proved a class above his rivals racing clear to a 2 1/2 length win over 1100m. Subsequently rising in class at the same track he recorded another dominant victory.

Meanwhile two of the maiden events contested at Edenhope that day were won by Sharkbites, Shark Shuffle leading throughout and digging deep when challenged late over 1450m whilst over the same trip Kookiecutter was dominant at just his third start.

Such an outstanding type that it took $900,000 to secure him at the 2005 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale, Sharkbite was a classy and adaptable galloper who won five races from 1000m to 1700m.

Unbeaten from two starts at two, he quickly earned black type in his three-year-old campaign, finishing a close second to Haradasun in the Listed Vain Stakes and third in two Gr.3 events.

A winner at Flemington on Melbourne Cup Day, Sharkbite held his form through to the running of the Listed Lord Stakes at Caulfield on Boxing Day, a race he won with authority.

At stud Sharkbite has proven a reliable source of winners with the likes of Andrassy, Viaductress and Jaws Of Steel doing a great job of late, the former winning two city reasons this season with a great overall strike rate of five wins from 16 starts whilst Viaductress was impressive overcoming trouble in running to salute at Canterbury in mid-May; her third success from just eight outings.

And the two-year-old Jaws Of Steel shows plenty of promise, catching the eye with a fast finishing third in a Flemington two-year-old contest late last month.

One of Redoute's Choice's 133 stakes winners, Sharkbite is a full brother to the recently retired dual Gr.3 winner Scissor Kick and he hails from one of the world's great families, his grandam being a half-sister to superstar broodmare Hasili.

The Listed winning Hasili produced five individual Gr.1 winners during her illustrious career at stud - Champs Elysees, Banks Hill (in turn dam of the big race winner Romantica), Intercontinental, Cacique and Heat Haze.

And another of her sons, the triple Group winner Dansili, has proven himself to be one of Danehill's finest sire sons - represented by 107 stakes winners including several who have raced extremely well in this part of the world, such as Foreteller, Dandino, Grand Marshal, Nevis, Index Linked, Renew, Permit, Soft Sand, Stipulate and Trick Of Light.

Also hailing from this prolific family is the late Leroidesanimaux, triple Gr.1 winning sire of the Kentucky Derby/Dubai World Cup hero Animal Kingdom - and the recently retired Caulfield Guineas winner Press Statement.

Purchased recently by a syndicate, Sharkbite will be well supported by the group's own mares including the Gr.3 winner Smytzer's Trish (dam of Redoute's Choice's stakes winner Swish Trish) and Pride Of Ardrossan, dam of Andrassy.

Sharkbite will stand at a fee of $3300 (incl gst) with discounts on offer to trainers, well matched mares and stakes performers.
