The Next Big Thing

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday June 29

When you look at this 2016 stallion roster it is hard to believe this highly progressive stud has been in operation for only a little over two years.

The five strong roster at Jindera Park for this season covers everything from colonial sprinters and Classic stamina, right through to the best staying bloodlines on offer in the Southern Hemisphere.

Proven Group I producer FAST 'N' FAMOUS is the stud's foundation stallion, and if you were to go out three years ago with a modest budget looking to purchase a proven sire that would appeal to the local market, you probably wouldn't do better than this Group I producing stalwart.

The now 13yo Fast 'N' Famous has proven to be one of the best sons of Redoute's Choice, producing three individual Group I winners, 64% winners to runners, and over 9% stakes performers to runners from just 148 starters.

Joining Fast 'N' Famous at Jindera Park in its first year of operation was Dansili's world class stayer ILLUSTRIOUS BLUE.

A brilliant winner of the famed Group II Goodwood Cup, he continues to attract a niche group of breeders seeking out staying bloodlines and once his first 3YO crop start hitting the track this spring their patience should be justly rewarded.

Earlier this year Jindera Park announced the addition of Group I BTC Cup and Golden Rose winner DUPORTH to their roster.

A horse with great early speed that trained on with even better success, his race record is comparable to Fast 'N' Famous in many ways.

However in Duporth Jindera Park are able to provide breeders with a proven sire that is free of Danehill blood, and better yet – a sire that has proven to nick extremely well with Danehill-line mares. With his first crop 4YOs Duporth has a record of over 65% winners to runners and 5.8% stakes performers to runners.

Breednet ran a feature story earlier this week reviewing the Group I Australian racing season and highlighting the most successful sire lines.

"The Danehill sireline overall was the most successful as we have come to expect producing 16 individual Group I winners, but there is growing success for other branches of the Northern Dancer line most notably through Sadler's Wells and his full brother Fairy King, who between them produced 14 Group I winners."

It seems Jindera Park is right on the money with their two most recent stallion acquisitions, namely Nom Du Jeu (Montjeu) and Va Pensiero (Stratum), well credentialed representatives of the above sirelines.

Classic stamina coupled with Group I class looked like one of the few elements the Jindera roster lacked in so with this in mind Montjeu's brilliant AJC Derby winner and proven stakes sire Nom du Jeu made the move from New Zealand.

With his oldest crop just 4YOs Nom Du Jeu is shaping up to be a Classic sire in the making, but he has also proved quite proficient at siring high class sprinters – his Wanganui Guineas (Listed, 1350m) winner Alcaldesa this season an example of this.

The addition of Nom Du Jeu to the stallion roster brought with it the 'Derby dream' and in Va Pensiero, Jindera Park may have found their next big thing, a headline act!

Blessed with enough speed and precocity to set a new class record over 1000m at Warwick Farm as a 2YO on just his second start, Va Pensiero stamped himself quickly as something special.

At three he blossomed into an elite sprinter and it's hard to think of a good horse that he didn't beat that season when taking out the "sire-making" Group III San Domenico Stakes and The Run to the Rose in brilliant fashion, just two weeks apart.

DISSIDENT, CRITERION, ZOUSTAR, EUROZONE, CLUSTER, SIDESTEP, KUROSHIO….the list goes on…he beat them all in those two starts. As a 4YO he was second to MIRACLES OF LIFE in the Group II Challenge Stakes, beating RUBICK, MOSSFUN, RAIN AFFAIR, VILLA VERDE...etc.

If that list of beaten horses was not impressive enough, Va Pensiero is also the highest rated son of Golden Slipper winner and Champion 2YO sire Stratum to stand at stud.

To top it all off, he is inbred to Danzig and Bletchingly – two of the greatest speed influences ever seen in this country.

Jindera Park's stallion roster:
DUPORTH (Red Ransom) $6,600
FAST 'N' FAMOUS (Redoute's Choice) $5,500
ILLUSTRIOUS BLUE (Dansili) $2,500
NOM DU JEU (Montjeu) $4,400
VA PENSIERO (Stratum) $7,700
