Greg Polson’s view – Racenet horse stats the key at Wagga

Greg Polson - Monday June 27

Racenet provides punters with free detailed form on the last eight starts at TAB Meetings across Australia but the Racenet horse stats also allow punters to view a horse's entire career and there is a good example of how the stats can be used to advantage at Wagga on Monday.

Let's use the Chamberlain's SBR Benchmark 55 Handicap (1600m) and specifically look at the Peter J Morgan-trained Zarlu.

Zarlu hasn't fired a shot in three runs this time in being defeated a combined total of more than 20 lengths so on recent form it is hard to recommend Zarlu as a definite winning chance but if we look further back into his career stats we notice his best form is clearly on heavy ground.

Here's a link to Zarlu's page on Racenet and his last 10 starts from the stats page are reproduced here with his heavy track runs highlighted in blue.

The stats page clearly shows Zarlu can be expected to improve sharply on the heavy (10) track posted for Wagga on Monday.

The last four times Zarlu has raced on a heavy track he recorded three wins and a second and two of those victories were over the Wagga 1600m.

Certainly looking beyond the last eight starts reveals that Zarlu is a better chance than his recent form would indicate.

It is still up to punters to decide whether Zarlu is totally out of form or worth a wager on Monday but Racenet certainly give punters all the tools they need to make the right decision.
