Sixth Winner for Pluck

Tara Madgwick - Sunday June 26

Plucky Star became the 3rd Australian winner for her sire Pluck and his 6th overall with two first crop winners in New Zealand and another in South Africa.

PluckPlucky Star did plenty wrong winning on debut but she got the job done on Sunday.

Despite veering out markedly in the straight, the Pluck filly still got the prize in the Coonamble Cellars 2yo Hcp (1100m).

"She has plenty of raw ability," stable foreman Ben Thompson said. "She was fired up winning a trial last month and didn't make it any easier here. But overall she was better today."

"Shejumped and was travelling," jockey Tony Cavallo reported. "I thought she was never going to lose but then she started hanging.

"Shehas a lot to learn. There's a lot of improvement there, too, if she curbs her manners."

Plucky Star (2f Pluck - Overly by Over) is the 6th first-crop winner by Vinery sire Pluck (USA). She's a half-sister to three winners and their dam has a Pluck yearling filly with Cranbourne trainer Mick Huglin.

The winners are accumulating quickly for Pluck (USA) who stands alongside his sire More Than Ready and is a near replica of the Vinery champion Video here

His progeny have sold to $200,000 and he stands for a $9,900 (inc gst) service fee this season.
