It's been lean pickings for the Myboycharlie filly Blueberry Hill since capturing the Group II Champagne Stakes at Doomben in May last year.
The Liam Birchley-trained
Blueberry Hill had not run a place in four starts this term but turned that around with an impressive win in Saturday's Listed Gai Waterhouse Classic (1350m) at Ipswich.
Ridden by James Orman the 3yo filly proved a neck too good for stablemate Elusive Catch ($10) with the Gai Waterhouse-trained Echo Galo ($5.50) one and three-quarter length back in third.
It advances the overall record of Blueberry Hill to 4 wins and 2 seconds from 11 starts with earnings of $328,550.
"I took her along slowly this time but a few things went wrong. I put blinkers on her and she bolted in her race, so they came off today and that worked," Birchley told AAP.
"I was a lot more confident when they downgraded the track to soft. I will probably enter her for the Tatts Tiara at Eagle Farm but who knows if she will handle it.
"One thing I have always thought she was a class horse and it is the last Group One of the season."
Owned by Peter Marshall, Blueberry Hill is the third foal and second winner out of the unraced Falbrav (IRE) mare Perkipsey a daughter of the smart racemare Brief Kiss (Brief Truce) whose five wins included the Listed STC Research Stakes and Listed Sheraco Stakes.
Perkipsey was purchased by Colm Santry for just $2,250 at an Inglis Mixed sale in 2009. Put in foal to Haradasun she was back in the ring a year later making $21,000 to the bid of Vine Street Pty Ltd.
She has a yearling filly by Rebel Raider named Half Moon Blue and a weanling filly by Instinction.
Perkipsey was bred back to Myboycharlie (IRE) last spring but missed.
