Due to stand his first season in the Hunter Valley this spring, Emirates Park Stud's Artie Schiller (USA) is having a standout season with his two-year-olds.
Led by Group III winner Flying Artie, who placed in both the Group 1 Golden Slipper and Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes, and the Group II Skyline Stakes winner Good Standing, Artie Schiller (USA) has another promising juvenile in the Darren Weir-trained colt Artie Dee Two.
An impressive winner at Geelong when making his career debut on June 3, Artie Dee Two kept his record at a perfect two for two when overcoming a torrid run in Saturday's Friends of Epworth Handicap (1200m) at Moonee Valley to see off a stubborn
After jumping well from his outside barrier, Artie Dee Two was obliged to race three and four deep with no cover for the entire trip.
Brad Rawiller kept the son of Artie Schiller travelling well within himself and once balanced up in the straight quickly asserted his authority.
"We didn't get any favours, but I was happy to be outside the leaders and I just tried to have him in his rhythm," Rawiller told AAP.
"Before the turn I was pretty confident, but I was just a bit wary there might be something that may come from off my back.
"I galloped him Tuesday morning and his work was outstanding, but at the same time he wanted to charge a bit, but once he got to the front today his raceday manners were perfect.
"That's a good sign going forward to 1400 metres and maybe further."
Purchased for $55,0000 by Darren Weir / John Foote Bloodstock at the 2015 Inglis Classic Sale, (Summer Book), Artie Dee Two is the second foal of the unraced Starcraft mare Star Logie a half-sister to Listed Wenona Girl stakes winner Wonderer (End Sweep) from the family of Group 1 winners Desert War, Laser Hawk (Artie Schiller) and Romantic Touch.
Star Logie has a weanling colt by All American and was bred back to Choisir last spring.
Artie Schiller stands his debut season in the Hunter Valley this year at a fee of $22,000 (inc GST).
