A
Godolphin runner was expected to win the 1300 metre juvenile maiden at Newcastle
on Thursday, but it was not the Skilled filly Pecans.
She went to the post at the price of $11, while her stablemate Kent (2g
Domesday x Malbun) was a short priced favourite.
With Kent held up for a run back on the inside, Pecans made the most of a head
start and was able to hold out her rival to win by a neck on debut with both
youngsters trained by John O'Shea.
Pecans is a half-sister to stakes-winner Secession and is the eighth winner and
final foal from good producing stakes-winner Walnut, who died in 2013.
She is the third winner for Commands Group I winning son Skilled, who stands at
Darley Victoria at a fee of $6,600.
