Young or old, east or west - Magnus appears to have it covered.
It was another red letter day for the Sun Stud stallion with his cracking filly topping the Platinum session of the Inglis Weanling Sale in Sydney when knocked down to Seamus Mills Bloodstock for $160,000, while in WA, 6YO mare, Magnifisio, won her eighth stakes race and took her earnings to over $1.5 million.
Magnus' weanling filly (image Joan Faras) had certainly caught the eye of prospective buyers right around the complex and Mills had to go the extra mile to secure the youngster on behalf of Graeme and Barbara Gathercole: "I love her breeding, I loved the way she walked. I knew she was going to be mine and feel she will make a lovely mare one day as well," Barbara enthused.
Bred by Robert Roulston Bloodstock and out of the Group Two winning mare, Flowerdrum, the filly was presented by Berkeley Park Stud.
Meanwhile, Group One Winterbottom Stakes winner, Magnifisio, was sent out a hot favourite for the Northam Toyota Stakes and duly saluted to make it eight black type victories for owner Alan Macalister, who continues to marvel at the mare's ability: "She's far from a spent force".
Magnus stands at a fee of $19,800 at Sun Stud Victoria this spring.
