More Success for Al Maher

Media Release - Saturday April 30

The 2016 Listed Hawkesbury Gold Cup (1600m) joined a very long list of feature mile events won by the Al Maher breed when Amovatio overcame a wide barrier in the 16-horse field.

A tried and tested performer in stakes company, Amovatio posted the ninth win of his illustrious career when finishing best down the outside of the Hawkesbury straight to score by a half-length winning margin. In so doing, the seasoned son of Al Maher took his earnings to well over $800,000.

Amovatio is now a three-time Listed Race winner. The 5-year-old son of Al Maher added the Hawkesbury Gold Cup (1600m) to his VRC Winter Championship Final (1600m) and MRC Weekend Hussler Stakes (1400m) successes recorded in the second half of 2015.

The record of Al Maher's progeny in prestigious mile events has long since been a feature of the Emirates Park stallion's admirable stud career.

The latest renewal of the Hawkesbury Gold Cup can now be added to 1600m races such as the ATC Epsom Handicap (G1), BRC JJ Atkins Stakes (G1), ATC Queen of the Turf Stakes (G1), VRC Edward Manifold Stakes (G2), VRC Blamey Stakes (G2), ATC Villiers Stakes (G2) and MVRC Stocks Stakes (G2), to name but a few.

Amovatio is one of three stakes winners sired by Al Maher from daughters of the champion Sadler's Wells stallion Scenic (Ire). Pride of place of the trio is taken by the mighty Delicacy, last season's Champion 3YO Filly of Australia and a two-time Group 1 Classic winner.
