Medaglia D'Oro (USA) colt Unbiased has the Brisbane Winter Carnival in his
sights following a resounding win at Canterbury on Wednesday.
Placed at his last four runs, the John O'Shea trained colt put it all together
when bolting clear to win the 1550 metre contest by four lengths.
"He's an impressive individual isn't he?" John O'Shea's assistant trainer
Darren Beadman said.
"James (McDonald) looked to be in an awkward spot at the 600 (metres) but
the horse just towed him into the race.
"I guess he will probably go to Brisbane now off that run. We can only
hope for bigger things in the future.
"He's got the temperament of a staying horse and the Medaglia D'oros can
sprint, run over middle distances and stay."
With Queensland now on the agenda, Unbiased's winter campaign is likely to
culminate in the Group I Queensland Derby (2400m) on June 11 at Eagle Farm.
Unbiased is one of three winners from Thunder Gulch (USA) mare The Fairest, a
sister to Group III winner Pasikatera from the family of dual Group I winner
Tempest Morn.
This very successful Gooree Stud developed family has been in hot form in
recent month producing new Group winners Good Standing, Attention and Tempt Me
Not.
Bringing up the second leg of a winning double for Godolphin was three year-old
Bernardini (USA) filly Shoepeg, a modest $65,000 Inglis Easter purchase for
Darley from the Yarraman Park draft.
Prepared by John O'Shea, Shoepeg broke her maiden at Newcastle in February and
has been consistent without winning in three runs since.
Taking on older horses in this 1900 metre assignment, she found the line
strongly when she saw daylight to score a short neck win.
A half-sister to stakes-winner Baby Corn, she is from Group III winning Scenic
(IRE) mare Sweet Corn, who was successful up to 2000 metres, so Shoepeg should
enjoy the longer trips.
