Big Payday for Magnus

Mark Smith - Sunday April 17

With Miss Promiscuity winning the valuable $250,000 VOBIS Gold Sprint (1200m) at Caulfield and Magnifisio returning to the winner's stall in the Listed Sheila Gwynne Classic at Ascot, it proved a financially rewarding day for Eliza Park International's Magnus on Saturday.

Carrying the colours of Magnus's owner Rob Crabtree, Miss Promiscuity sat off the speed under Craig Williams before sprinting clear under Craig Williams to defeat Jalan Jalan (Foreplay) by three-quarters of a length with the favourite The Quarterback (Street Boss) the same distance back in third. The David Hayes and Tom Dabernig-trained 5yo mare won the Group III Sir John Monash Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield last July.

"She's got great statistics at the track but there was a little bit of a question mark over her at 1200m." Williams said.

"They just said 'if you can ride her a bit colder into the straight and not expose her, using up her speed, then it will really help her in this race."

A homebred for Dorrington Farm's Rob Crabtree, Miss Promiscuity advances her overall record to 7 wins, 4 seconds and 2 thirds from 21 starts for earnings of $562,320.

She will now head for the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) in Adelaide on May 7 according to co-trainer David Hayes.

"All credit to Craig there," Hayes said.

"We said if you're travelling well, cover her right into the straight.

"If you watch him, he really didn't move until the 200m and then she gave that length that she always does.

"It's fantastic for Rob Crabtree who owns the stallion and the big VOBIS bonus couldn't have gone to a better person."

Miss Promiscuity is one of three winners by Magnus out of the winning Distant Music mare Zipstream.

A half-sister to dual Group III winner Amtrak and the Listed winner Furio, Zipstream has a 2yo colt by stratum, a yearling colt by Helmet and a colt foal by Magnus.

She was not covered last spring.

Over at Ascot Magnifisio earned her first win since capturing the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes at ascot in November 2014.

Previously trained by Jim Taylor the 6yo daughter of Magnus was transferred to Vaughn Sigley in the middle of 2015.

She has been her sire's leading earner with a record of 13 wins, 8 seconds and 3 from 31 starts for earnings of $1,436,200.

An $80,000 purchase by Alan Macalister from the Rangeview Stud draft at the 2011 Magic Millions Perth Yearling sale, Magnifisio is the third of five foals of the Key Business mare Ifestio who died in September 2011.

Winner of the Listed Belmont Oaks, Ifestio was a sister to the top-class Barakey who himself claimed the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes two years before his niece.

Hi On love, a sister to Ifestio and Barakey claimed the 2005 Listed WATC Champion Fillies Stakes
