Group 1 Levin Classic winner Dukedom has been sold to Hong Kong interests and will
join the stable of Dennis Yip.
Trainer Steven Cole, who part-owned the Bachelor Duke gelding with his father
David, confirmed the sale today.
"The money talks and what we got offered is far more than what we could win in
New Zealand, so it has to be done," a philosophical Steven Cole said.
"I've been very lucky to get a horse of his calibre so early on in my training
career," the 24-year-old added.
Cole is confident the three-year-old will be suited to the cauldron environment
of Hong Kong.
"He's a very laid-back horse, so being confined to a box up there won't be an
issue.
"He'll be ideally suited by a mile to 2000 metres and I know they have bought
him with intentions of running in the Hong Kong Derby next year."
As a young trainer, Cole was quick to point out that trading horses was vital
in order to establish himself financially.
"I hope that later on in my training career I will be able to keep the better
ones and target feature races in Australia like Murray Baker does." – NZ
