The Pat Farrell-trained Alliterate completed a grand weekend for Emirate Park Stud's Al Maher when she cruised home in Sunday's $100,000 Wellington Boot (1100m).
It was also a notable second consecutive winner of the iconic race for the Cobcroft family's Desert Sun mare Al Sahra following the win of the Excellent Art (IRE) filly Alart 12 months ago.
Making her sixth start of the season, Alliterate was given a cosy run back on the fence by Greg Ryan before coming clear to defeat the favourite defeat Spright (Hinchinbrook) by two and a quarter lengths with Sugarparma (Snitzel) a further length away third.
Her overall record stands at 3 wins and 2 seconds from 6 starts for earnings of $113,635.
"We were drawn a bit awkward and struggled to muster speed early so I decided to drop in behind them," Ryan told Sky Thoroughbred Central.
"I was in behind Sugarparma and Spright, two of the better chances in the race, and I could see those boys fishing for runs coming to the corner.
"I knew I was going to get a good cart through and things went to plan.
"This horse has been barred and thrown riders, all sorts of problems.
"I said to Pat, I didn't think she was going to win the Boot, but he said the filly would be right and win - he was right.
"I take my hat off to him. He can get a two-year-old right."
Bred by the estate of the late David Cobcroft, Alliterate is the second foal of the winning Desert Sun (GB) mare Al Sahra a daughter of the stakes-placed Bite The Bullet mare Plain Crazy.
Her first foal Alart (photo by Lisa Grimm), who races in the same colours as Alliterate, went on to win the Listed Reginald Allen Quality at Rosehill last spring.
This is the prolific winning family descending from the Caranna mare Vista Anna which has been nurtured by the Cobcrofts over many decades producing the likes of Hot As Hell, Salaam, Flaming Hot, Fine Bubbles, Momentaire, Craig's Dragon, Harlem River and Pekalan.
Al Sahra has a yearling filly by Dream Ahead (USA) and was bred back to the same stallion last spring after slipping to Casino Prince in 2014.
Al Maher had two stakes-winners at Flemington on Saturday, the top-class 3yo filly Badawiya in the Group II Kewney Stakes and the 4yo mare Felicienne in the Group III Schweppervescence Trophy.
It's all good news for the vendors of the six lots by Al Maher at the Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling sale.
