The
only Australian first season sire with a runner on Wednesday was Darley
Victoria based Skilled and he made it a winner when Cayman Dayze bolted in at
Murray Bridge.
Trained by Michael Hickmott, Cayman Dayze was third on debut at Morphettville
back in October but has obviously returned from her spell a stronger filly.
Sent out a hot favourite she gave nothing else a chance when cruising home to
win the 900 metre maiden by three lengths.
A modest $8,000 Inglis Classic purchase from the Bowness Stud draft, Cayman
Dayze is the first winner for metro winning Xaar (GB) mare Miss Pickford, a
half-sister to the dam of Group III winner My Ex Mate.
Further back it's the family of Group I winners Denman and Preserve as well as
Golden Slipper winner Dark Eclipse.
A Group I winning son of Commands, Skilled has now had two winners from his
only two runners, the other being speedy Tasmanian filly Little Elsa.
Standing at Darley Victoria, Skilled covered 87 mares last year at a fee of
$6,600.
