The One That Got Away

Mark Smith - Saturday September 5

There will be celebrations in Turkey tonight after Shedaresthedevil led home a 1-2 for More Than Ready’s Gr1 winning son Daredevil in Friday’s Kentucky Oaks at Churchill Downs.

Shedaresthedevil and runner-up Swiss Skydiver come from the first crop of Champagne Stakes winner Daredevil who became The China Horse Club’s first stallion in America. He stood four seasons at WinStar Farm in Kentucky before being acquired by the Turkish Jockey Club late last year.

Sent off a 15/1 shot under Florent Geroux, the Brad Cox-trained filly tracked the favourite Gamine in the run before drawing clear in the straight to defeat Swiss Skydiver by one and a half lengths with Gamine (Into Mischief) the same distance back in third.
