Pocket
rocket Sargent Doakes has had a fine juvenile season for astute Scone trainer
Rod Northam, capturing his fourth win on Thursday in the $41,000 Springboard to
Fame Plate at Grafton.
A brilliant winner of the $100,000 Inglis Scone 2YO Challenge in May, Sargent
Doakes failed to handle the heavy conditions at his next run at Randwick, but
bounced back in this competitive country feature to score a dominant length and
a half win under 58.5 kg.
The talented son of I Am Invincible was plucked from the Middlebrook Station
draft from the Inglis Scone Yearling Sale for $40,000 and has won four of six
starts earning $140,085 for his lucky group of owners who include Gordon
Henderson and Suni Carnes.
Bred by Jilly Henderson, Sargent Doakes is the last foal of good producing
Rory's Jester mare Momoco, who was retired from stud duties in 2013. She had 11
foals to race for 10 winners.
Sargent Doakes is one of 20 two year-old winners this season for I Am
Invincible, who is second to only Snitzel on the leading Australian two year-old
sires list by winners, but leads by wins, his progeny having racked up 25 wins
between them.
I Am Invincible will cover a full book at Yarraman Park this spring at a fee of
$55,000.
